Meet The Team – Simon Saddington
The Corps Monitoring remote monitoring team is based at our NSI Gold Cat II accredited Corps Monitoring Centre (CMC) in Glasgow. It delivers round-the-clock security services to protect people, businesses, and their assets nationwide.
We strive to be the employer of choice in the security monitoring sector, and it is our people who are at the heart of our services. We sat down with Simon Saddington, a CCTV operator who joined Corps Monitoring just this year, to find out how it’s going.
When did you join Corps and what were you doing before?
I joined the Corps Monitoring team back in March 2023. Before that I worked in lots of different areas of security in a range of different sites, most recently a theme park. Security has been my job for more than 25 years, so I’ve seen the industry change and develop over a long period of time
Tell us about your career at Corps so far?
In my career I’ve done a lot of CCTV work but since joining the team here, I’ve learned a lot about how the ARC operates. Since joining I have been taught much more about how the systems operate, not just the watching of the cameras but the whole process dealing directly with the clients assisting them, the engineering side programming the systems, plus all the weekly and daily jobs that keep the security of the sites we monitor running smoothly.
Why did you join the Corps Monitoring team?
I had reached that time when my CCTV license was being renewed and decided to have a look at the opportunities that were out there. I saw the role with Corps Monitoring and after speaking to the manager, it sounded interesting. I took the job to further my career and with all the things shown to me in the ARC with its advanced systems, looked to be the way forward.
Why is remote monitoring important today and how is it evolving?
Remote monitoring is more important than ever – it’s difficult to keep up with the challenges of the day without that technology support. It can reduce the need for individuals to be on site, but generally it’s safer, means that we can monitor more of a premises and that we can be in more than one place at a time. It’s also advancing constantly, which means our clients are always getting the best possible coverage.
How has Corps Monitoring changed in the last 5 years?
I’ve only joined the team this year so that’s a difficult one to answer. In my time here though, I’ve seen real growth as the demand for CCTV monitoring goes up. My previous role was monitoring live CCTV, so only very few sites can be accurately watched. Now with technology we can reduce the number of false activations helping the operators catch the real incidents as they happen.
What’s next for the remote monitoring industry?
Technology is constantly evolving and developing which has a huge impact on the level of service we can provide. I’m particularly interested to see how AI will be integrated into security technology and the how it might improve the way we do things.
What’s the most exciting aspect of working at Corps?
I take great pride in keeping premises safe and secure, but I really enjoy working with different clients and seeing the benefits we deliver to their companies.
